Hello from right here in Lloydminster!
Can-West Sports Group took over the Bud Miller Beach Volleyball Courts and
hosted a tournament Saturday July 16, which was a huge success. 13 teams braved
the unbelievable heat and competed against one another in a battle for first place in
the women’s and men’s divisions.
It was a day filled with fun, competition, and a lot of sun. The structure of the
tournament consisted of 45-minute timed games, including two sets to 21 points
and a third tiebreaker set to 11 points. The team in the first seed following pool
play was automatically given a spot in the championship final and the second and
third place teams fought for a chance to join them in the top.
Playing in the women’s final was Mathews & Mathews against Varga &
Hawryluk. On the other side in the men’s final it was Funez & Walisser against
Peck & Ryan. Two very high-level, competitive finals were played in this
tournament.
Coming out on top in a 3-set thriller on the women’s side was Varga & Hawryluk
and on the men’s side after a hard fought 2-set match was Peck & Ryan.
Join us next summer in 2023 as we continue to offer this tournament annually in
Lloydminster!
